School hols cost parents £1k
KEEPING the children amused during the six-week summer holiday will cost parents an average of £1,000.
Admission to theme parks and zoos, the cost of getting there, fees for sporting activities, extra child care and buying DVDs during the long break all add up, says a new study.
More than two-thirds of 1,500 parents quizzed admitted they were worried about the big bills.
The survey by First TransPennine Express, which is offering children free travel on its trains in the holiday, also found that, because of the recession, almost three-quarters of parents plan to spend less this year keeping their youngsters entertained.
