M4 traffic latest: M4 closed - FIVE-MILE tailbacks near Swindon
M4 traffic has been hit by huge delays this morning because planned roadworks have overrun.
Two lanes of the motorway eastbound have closed, as well as a slip road. Highway crews remain at the scene. Five miles of tailbacks have been reported at Junction 15 on the A346 Marlborough Road (Swindown East).
Update: All lanes have been reopened.
The congestion caused widespread delays for commuters during this morning's rush hour.
Many motorists saw an extra 30 minutes added to their journey because of the raod works.
Highways England tweted at 7.38am: "CLEAR - All lanes are clear on the #M4 #Swindon between J16 and J15 after over running works have been removed.
"Thanks for your patience, delays will beginning to ease approx 30 minutes above normal travel time."
Crews remained at the scene until well after 7am working to clear the lane closures on the main carriageway.
The A419 was also hit by delays because of the works, causing further headaches for drivers.
