London tube station EVACUATED due to police incident - armed police rush to scene
QUEENSWAY tube station in London was evacuated and closed earlier today due to a police incident. British Transport Police said an arrest had been made and an investigation opened.
Queensway station was cleared of passengers with trains unable to stop at the Central Line station. Members of the public took to social media to report a heavy police presence at the scene. One said armed officers were at the station, which has been closed. British Transport Police (BTP) said a man had been arrested at the scene.
London Ambulance Service said another man was treated for injuries.
A BTP spokesman said: “Shortly after 1.10pm today officers were called to Queensway London Underground station following a report of an assault on an eastbound Central Line platform.
“British Transport Police officers, including firearms officers, were quickly on the scene and a man was arrested on suspicious of grievous bodily harm.
"The detained man is currently being treated by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.
“A second man is also being treated by paramedics at the scene.
"An investigation to understand the circumstances leading to both men being injured in now underway.”
The station has now re-opened.
