I was told to leave flight because I’m allergic to strawberries
A HOLIDAYMAKER with a strawberry allergy yesterday claimed cabin crew threatened to throw her off a flight because they would not be able to sell cider with her onboard.
Anaphylaxis: Lancashire teenager raises awareness of allerges
Chloe Fitzpatrick, 19, said she was “badly let down” by staff on the Thomas Cook flight from Greece back to the UK.
The dance teacher said the cabin manager told her they were not happy to have her on onboard and attendants “couldn’t cater for one person ‘at the expense of the other 200”.
Ms Fitzpatrick, of Bolton-by-Bowland, Lancs, was eventually allowed to fly.
Berry cider and rose wine were removed from sale to all passengers.
But she said she was made to feel “humiliated”.
Her daily battle with the allergy is featured in a film shown in schools to raise awareness.
Earlier this month, she booked a lastminute holiday to Zante with boyfriend Matthew Higson, 21, her first trip abroad without her parents.
On the outbound flight from Manchester, she said she encountered no issues.
The safety of our customers and crew is always our first priority
But after taking her seat on the return flight, a cabin manager said her condition would affect other passengers’ “flying experience”.
A Thomas Cook Airlines spokesman said: “The safety of our customers and crew is always our first priority.”
Other passengers on the flight were asked to refrain from any products containing strawberries.
