Bungling burglars caught by cops after falling ASLEEP in stolen car
Bungling burglars found themselves surrounded by police after they fell asleep in their getaway car. Forty winks turned into four arrests when police vehicles boxed in the snoozing swindlers as they napped in a stolen VW Golf R on Sunday.
The VW Golf was stolen from a house in Baildon, near Bradford in West Yorkshire, during a burglary and driven eight miles away to Cullingworth, where police found a driver and three passengers parked up and asleep inside.
PC Pearson, Road Traffic Officer based at Bradford Motorcycle Unit, shared on Twitter a picture of the stolen electric blue car trapped in the sticky situation - as marked police cars and van surrounded the apprehended foursome.
He wrote: “Car stolen from a burglary in Baildon, found by PC1981 in Cullingworth with the burglars asleep. Vehicle boxed in and all 4 occupants arrested for burglary. Brilliant job and great team work. Not bad for 1st day back.”
The tweet, posted on August 19, gave Twitter users a giggle at the expense of the snoozing crooks.
One Twitter user replied: “Ohhhh didums, the little boys were tired, maybe they should have gone to bed earlier instead of playing out all night! Oh well, hopefully a bit of ‘HMP Time’ then they can catch up on their sleep!”
Another wrote: “How considerate if them all to wait for you and have a rest beforehand!”
West Yorkshire Police have been contacted for comment on the incident.
