TV ad helps girl, six, save grandma
A girl of six helped to save her grandmother’s life after spotting the signs of a stroke which she had seen on a health service broadcast.
Karen Lewis noticed that Heather Lewis’s face had fallen to one side, that her speech was slurred and that she could not lift her arms – just like the woman in the NHS campaign.
She ran to a neighbour’s house and raised the alarm before calling 999.
Karen said: “Nanny started to talk funny and she looked like the advert.”
Mrs Lewis, 63, of Shrewsbury, said: “I went dizzy and I started to fall. Karen told me: ‘Nanny, I think you’re like the TV advert, you need an ambulance.’
“If it wasn’t for Karen I don’t think I would be here now. I am really proud of her. She was so clever to remember the advert.”
Mrs Lewis was taken into hospital after her stroke on April 26 and is now recovering.
