Goodness Gracious Me star Meera Syal joins new series of Broadchurch
MEERA Syal has landed herself a part in the second series of Broadchurch, it's been confirmed.
The 53-year-old actress, who is best-known for her roles in Goodness Gracious Me and The Kumars at No. 42, will join the likes of David Tennant and Olivia Colman in the seaside-set murder series.
According to RadioTimes.com, ITV confirmed that Syal has started filming her scenes but declined to give any clues as to what her role will be.
The plot of the second season is a well-kept secret and only a small number of people are aware of the closely-guarded scripts and storylines.
However, one insider revealed that Syal's role will be "pivotal" in the new series which is currently being filmed in and around the seaside town of Clevedon in Somerset.
We have another big story to tell this year, and that meant finding exceptional actors for new roles
Syal will join a few other new faces including James D’Arcy, who is best known for his roles in the films Cloud Atlas and Hitchcock, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, who has starred in the US TV series Without A Trace.
"We have another big story to tell this year, and that meant finding exceptional actors for new roles," said writer Chris Chibnall.
Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan will reprise their roles as the grieving parents of murdered boy Danny Latimer from series one, and former Doctor Who tar Arthur Darvill will also return as local vicar Paul Coates.
