Michelle Obama keeps it casual as she takes her daughters to visit Berlin Wall Memorial
AS THEIR father attended to matters of the state during a 2-day visit to Berlin, daughters Sasha and Malia accompanied their mother on a rather sombre visit to the German capital's Holocaust memorial.
The young siblings joined their mother, Michelle, as she placed flowers on the wall in Bernauer Strasse as part of a tour of key sites.
But despite the upsetting nature of their visit, the trio remained in good spirits as they were taken around the site by the director of the foundation of the Berlin Wall.
They were also to take in the Cold War-era Checkpoint Charlie, where US and Soviet tanks once faced off, and a remaining stretch of the Berlin Wall that once split the city.
The family kept it casual for their visit, opting for light summer clothes and sunglasses as they were joined by the president's half-sister Auma.
Michelle was not afraid to show how tactile she is with her family either, often hugging and putting her arms around her daughters throughout their visit.
After their tour, the family reportedly enjoyed some lighter entertainment.
In the afternoon, Michelle, 49, her 12-year-old daughter Sasha and 14-year-old Malia apparently went shopping near their luxury hotel at Potsdamer Platz before enjoying a movie in a nearby cineplex.
President Obama meanwhile, used made his first public speech in Berlin, which marks his first visit to the Capital.
