U.S. First Lady MICHELLE OBAMA has issued a rare public statement to assure the world the President's daughter Malia is safe after she was caught up in an earthquake drama in Mexico.
The 13-year-old is in the country for a school trip and sparked fears for her safety when a 7.6-magnitude tremor hit close to Acapulco on Tuesday (20Mar12).
President Barack Obama and his wife rarely discuss their children in public, but mum Michelle assured the country on Wednesday (21Mar12) that their daughter is safe.
A spokesperson for her office told CBS News that Malia is "safe and was never in danger".
