On August 21, 2017, the moon will pass in front of the Sun blocking out about three quarters of the light.
The ‘partial eclipse’ is one of the most thrilling of cosmic phenomena, putting Sun, Earth, Moon and even humanity into perspective.
Sky-watchers across the Atlantic in the USA will get to enjoy a full-on solar eclipse and even glimpse the ultra rare phenomenon of the sun rising over the Pacific Ocean while wholly blocked out by the moon –the so-called eclipse sunrise.

The last time the USA experienced such a dramatic eclipse American troops were still fighting the Germans in the trenches of northern France during World War I.
