Zara Tindall is probably in good spirits today as she celebrates her 45th birthday. Princess Anne’s daughter, who is not a working royal, is likely to be marking her special day privately with her family and friends.
This is likely to include her husband Mike Tindall and their three children Mia, Lena and Lucas. It is likely that Zara will be spoilt by her nearest and dearest on her big day.

Zara is a down-to-earth royal
Zara may be a member of the Royal Family, one of the most famous families in the world, but she is known for being extremely down-to-earth. The 45-year-old is not a working royal, which means she is able to live a life away from the public spotlight most of the time and enjoy ordinary activities. This includes nights out in London. This is believed to be why she is so popular among the public, with many wanting Princess Anne’s daughter to become a working royal.

Zara does not carry out official royal duties because she does not have an official royal title. This was a decision made when she was born by her mother Princess Anne and her father Captain Mark Phillips. In an interview in the run-up to Anne's 70th birthday a good few years ago, Anne said she believed not giving her children titles "was probably the right thing to do". Anne said: "I think it was probably easier for them, and I think most people would argue that there are downsides to having titles."

The royal is close with her mother, Princess Anne, and has been throughout her entire life. The mother and daughter share plenty in common, including their love for horses and horse-riding. Zara also shows gratitude to her mum for allowing her to live an ordinary life by not giving her a royal title. In 2015, during an interview with New Zealand's 1 News, Zara said: "Me and my brother both had a great life growing up because we didn't have our titles. We've been able to travel and fit in, and do normal things. Our parents are very much to thank for that."

Zara is a massive fan of horse racing and still competes to this day. The royal mum even competed in the London 2012 Olympics, where she won a silver medal as part of the eventing team. More recently, Zara has competed at events around the UK. She also attends horseracing events with her husband Mike Tindall and their children.

While Zara is not a working royal, she is very close with her cousin Prince William and often steps out to support him. This included last week at a Buckingham Palace garden party hosted by The Prince and Princess of Wales.
