Sarah Ferguson has been "shaken" by the arrest of her ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, a source claims. The former Duchess of York lost her titles and her Windsor home alongside the King's younger brother when he was ousted from the royal fold last year. The 66-year-old's own reputation also took a hit following the release of her emails to late paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, where she begged him for money and asked him to marry her, among other revelations.

The latest development in the ongoing Andrew saga - his arrest for sharing confidential information while acting as UK trade envoy - has left Sarah feeling even more vulnerable, a source suggested. They told Closer magazine: "This has shaken her ... [She's] been crying a lot, she's inconsolable. It's not just about the legal side - it's also the humiliating public scrutiny, and the feeling that it's all crashing down around her."

They insisted that Sarah, who divorced Andrew in 1996 but continued to live with him for years afterwards, has "nothing to hide" and "would co-operate with the police" if approached.

But the source also suggested that the former duchess felt "very exposed" and "knows that no one can protect her now".

"She's scared - but for herself," they added. "Sarah has weathered scandals before, but she's not certain she'll come out the other side this time. That's what frightens her the most."

Andrew was held for 11 hours in custody on his 66th birthday last Thursday after being arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office. He was released under investigation and no charges have been levelled.

Detectives searched his former home, Royal Lodge, in Windsor, Berkshire over the weekend and on Monday.
