Meghan Markle slammed after copying Hollywood royalty Angelina Jolie more than 20 times
Meghan Markle has been taking style notes from Angelina Jolie, dating all the way back to 2011.
When you hear the name Meghan Markle what do you instantly think of? Unsurprisingly the Royal Family would probably spring to mind first, but her style follows as a close second. From the moment she tied the knot with Prince Harry, fans have studied every inch of her captivating ensembles, past and present.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, is regularly accused of sporting similar designs to Princess Diana and is more often than not compared to her sister-in-law, the Princess of Wales. Both are globally renowned fashion icons, so it comes as no surprise that Meghan is fond of their fits. However, she has now been linked to Hollywood A-lister Angelina Jolie and this dates back to 2011.
There is no denying that if you take one look at both of these women’s career trajectories, you'll notice their lives aren't too dissimilar. Meghan and Angelina, 49, started as actresses in Hollywood, carry out philanthropy work, and have been granted audiences with Queen Elizabeth. Royal fan account Remoulade Sauce compiled over 20 near-identical outfits on their X account, which suggests Meghan shares a near symbiotic outlook with Angelina, 49, when it comes to fashion.
Twitter users responded with astonishment at the similarities, with one person writing: "Omg wow I had no idea. I think Meghan just copies any famous woman who is talented and liked. That sure is a lot of Angelina looks followed. Thank you for sharing I had not seen this.” Another said: "What is her deal with copying everyone? At this point it is obsessive.” A third chimed in and penned: “Goodness me. Meghan's a serial stalker.” However, one person jumped to Meghan's defence and said: "There is no competition here at all, they are both famous people and have a similar style. End of.”
Meghan Markle made her debut in the Royal Family by copying one of Angelina's looks. Rewind nearly a decade, and you will be taken back to the happy couple announcing their engagement in 2017. The couple cosied up to one another and posed in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace. Meghan went for a demure look and wore an oversized belted white coat, by Canadian brand Line the Label. But it’s not the first time we’ve seen this look Angelina first sported it in New York, back in 2011. Her design featured a nearly identical belt detail - and both women had their coats firmly done up. And, if you look closely you will spot the muted tone ensemble by Angelina, which is a phrase Meghan coined when she was asked to describe her looks during her Netflix documentary in 2022.

For the "Salt" premiere in 2010, Angelina Jolie wore a black, strapless mini dress by Emporio Armani. It was embellished with sequins and cinched her in at the waist. She paired this with killer heels to complete the fierce look. Two years later Meghan burst onto the scene, so it comes as no surprise that she took inspiration from the Queen of Hollywood. Miss Markle clearly wanted to add some of Angelina’s sparkle to her look at the USA Networks, A "Suits" Story Fashion Show, in New York. She rocked a sassy off-the-shoulder look that was almost identical to Angelina's.

Meghan took style notes of Angelina’s ensembles back in 2010 as she copied another stunning look. The Tombe Radar actress sported a chic beige double-breasted trench coat from Burberry that featured a tie waist, and brown knee-high heeled boots. And Meghan clearly saved this look from the archives which was a perfect winter look when she moved to the UK. In 2017, the Duchess attended her first Christmas at Sandringham with the Royal Family, in the presence of the late Queen Elizabeth and she wore a light brown Sentaler wrap coat with the same long hemline. She did not just go for a similar coat, but she went for almost identical boots.

Angelina is renowned for her effortless glamour that is characterised by minimalist pieces, and timeless designs. In 2014 she she opted for a laidback look that featured the oversized Everlane Portfolio handbag. It is a super-practical hold-all that goes with everything and definitely isn’t a walking billboard for a brand's logo, so there is no doubt why many celebrities have been spotted with it over the years. Three years later Meghan was spotted with the exact design in a brown version. She styled it just like Angelina with a pair of shades and casual clothes.

Back in 2018, Meghan embarked on her first engagement with the Queen, which is a huge honour, and even got to ride the royal train. All eyes were on Meghan’s outfit as she stepped off the locomotive, and stunned in another Givenchy creation. A few years earlier, dating back to 2014, Angelina wore a nearly identical white gown to the premiere of Unbroken in 2014. Both dresses feature than same neckline and cape-like detail across the shoulders, as well as a similar hem length.
