Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Oprah snub that was clear signal 'tide had turned'

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not appear to be as close to Oprah Winfrey as they once were.

Harry and Meghan: Oprah interview was 'a disaster' says Palmer

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle used to have a good relationship with US talk show host Oprah Winfrey, however, things don't seem to be as "peachy" as they once were.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the world in 2021 when they appeared alongside Oprah and unleashed a series of bombshell claims and accusations about the royals.

But the couple did not attend the talk show host's star-studded 69th birthday bash in 2023 with one royal expert claiming that the "tide has turned".

The party guests included many Hollywood A-listers like the Kardashians, Jennifer Lopez and Sharon Stone, and while many were hoping the Sussexes would attend, they were nowhere to be seen.

However, it was never confirmed if the couple were simply busy with other engagements or if they were not invited.

But royal commentator Kara Kennedy suggested the Sussexes's absence from the bash signalled something bigger.

She wrote in The Spectator: "On a more serious note, snubs like this show that the tide is turning with the Sussexes — and that the gamble that saw them trade in the lifelong duty of being working royalty for the money and fame of being celebrities hasn’t paid off."

"It’s easy to see why Oprah wouldn’t want the pair at her birthday shindig after Harry’s latest revelations."

At the time, some reports suggested the media mogul simply chose to distance herself from Harry and Meghan, as their interview sparked backlash and her ratings showed a decline.

Meanwhile, Oprah's birthday, January 29, fell around the same time as the publication of Harry's explosive memoir, Spare.

Ms Kennedy added: "The interview [with Oprah] was not an attempt to speak the truth, nor was it an attempt at reconciliation.

"This was Harry and Meghan’s campaign to finish off the British monarchy — and they used Oprah as a pawn."
