Prince Harry and Meghan Markle "would like to be" the next Beckhams but "they aren't on the same level", a royal commentator claims. David Beckham and Prince Harry have reportedly enjoyed a close relationship over the years, and he and his wife were invited to the Sussexes wedding in 2018.

And both couples have appeared in Netflix documentaries, the Beckham's film was released in October and racked up 208.5million hours in three months. The Sussexes' film was released a year earlier and in 2023 received 72.9million hours of viewing.

However, it's alleged Prince Harry called David Beckham and accused him of leaking stories to the press, which according to the Sun left the couple 'furious'.

This month it was announced David Beckham would be an ambassador for the King's Foundation, King Charles's charitable organisation, and the Monarch and former England footballer were pictured together exchanging beekeeping tips.

The Beckham's burgeoning bond with the King comes as Prince Harry has reportedly had strained relations with his family over the fallout from his tell-all memoir, Spare.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told The Sun he believes the Sussexes "would like to be" the Beckhams, but that you "can't compare" the two couples.

He said: "The Beckhams and the Sussexes aren't comparable, they aren't on the same level.

"There isn't a modest comparison other than the superficial, because you've got those who've basically survived decades, and they're absolutely huge.

"So I don't think there's any possibility of Harry and Meghan resembling that level."

David and Victoria first met in the Manchester United players' lounge in early 1997, when Victoria was arguably the more famous of the duo with her career as Posh Spice in the globally famous Spice Girls pop group.

Prince Harry and Meghan are reported to have met 2016 before marrying in a lavsh ceremony at Windsor Castle in 2018.

Speaking about his recent appointment as an ambassador for the King's Foundation, Beckham said: "I'm excited to be working with the King's Foundation and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of the charity's work.

"I've always been keen to help young people to expand their horizons and I'm particularly looking forward to supporting the foundation's education programmes and its efforts to ensure young people have greater access to nature."

In photographs released to mark the announcement, Beckham was pictured with the King on the doorstep of Highgrove, Charles's Gloucestershire retreat, and shown trying out his carpentry skills with foundation students taking part in woodworking courses at the Snowdon School of Furniture.
