Queen Camilla will turn 77 on July 17, and her birthday is set to coincide with a big event on the royal calendar - the State Opening of Parliament, which is also set for the same day as Camilla's birthday.

On this special day, it is predicted Queen Camilla will wear the fascinating headpiece - the diamond diadem, worth an eye-watering £800,000.

King Charles's wife had a breakout moment when she wore the tiara for the first time at the State Opening of Parliament in 2023.

Also known as the George IV State Diadem, the regal headpiece was made for the coronation of King George IV in 1820 and is what the monarch wore (along with a large purple velvet cap) on his way to Westminster Abbey for his crowning ceremony.

The diadem was closely associated with the late Queen Elizabeth II, who wore it during her coronation in 1953 and also en route to most State Openings of Parliament. It is the image we see in photos across British and Commonwealth, alongside on coins, banknotes and stamps.

It was a memorable moment for Queen Camilla to wear the Diamond Diadem, as it has been worn by every British queen, whether they reigned or were consorts, since the reign of King George IV. Queen Camilla sported the Diamond Diadem for the first time at the latest State Opening of Parliament in 2023. King Charles opened Parliament on November 7, for the first time since he acceeded the throne in September 2022.

The State Opening of Parliament is a ceremonial event which formally marks the beginning of each session of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Ahead of the ceremony, the King will travel from Buckingham Palace or a royal residence to Parliament. Once he gets to the House of Lords, the King will read a speech to MPs and peers in the House of Lords which is written by the government. The State Opening takes place in the House of Lords chamber within Westminster on the first day of the new parliamentary session. A general election will be held on July 4, as announced by Rishi Sunak in May.

It is distinct for its design of four crosses alternating with four sprays representing the national emblems of England (roses), Ireland (shamrocks) and Scotland (thistles).

For the State Opening of Parliament in October 2019, the Queen donned the Diamond Diadem from the royal collection. Although the Queen attended a few State Openings of Parliament after 2019, this outing marked the last one she wore a diadem to.

The Diamond Diadem, also known as the King George IV State Diadem, is one of the most recognisable jewels in the royal collection. The Royal Collection Trust describe the piece as a "silver and gold-lined diadem with an openwork frame set transparent with diamonds".

"Narrow band edged with pearls, surmounted by four crosses-pattée, the front cross set with a pale yellow brilliant, and four sprays representing the national emblems of England, Ireland and Scotland; roses, shamrocks and thistles."
