Queen Elizabeth II has a handful of gorgeous royal homes. Her Majesty spends Christmases at Sandringham, summers at Balmoral and Easters at Windsor but Buckingham Palace in London is where she spends most of her time. A Channel 5 documentary about the royal residences reveals some interesting claims about Buckingham Palace.
A host of royal experts are interviewed on Channel 5’s Secrets Of The Royal Palaces programme, including the Queen’s former press officer Dickie Arbiter.
The first episode of the four-part series focuses on Buckingham Palace, in which Mr Arbiter claims has some bizarre hidden features.
According to Mr Arbiter there used to be a staff bar in the building which was shut down after employees over-indulged and became “too worse for wear.” “They had to get rid,” he claimed.

The alleged bar is not the only bizarre feature said to be housed within the palace walls, as apparently there is also a cash machine.
High-end bank Coutts is favoured by the Royal Family and installed an ATM at Buckingham Palace according to reports.
The Queen’s London residence is managed by a staggering 188 staff members has nearly 800 rooms and boasts ballroom the height of three double-decker buses.
The magnificent residence was first built by the Duke of Buckingham in 1703 and was later extended.
According to reports, Buckingham Palace contains these six extraordinary touches.

- A doctor’s surgery for staff
- A staff post office
- A ballroom the height of three double-decker buses
- An onsite swimming pool
-A cash machine
Royal insiders, former press officers and ex palace staff take part in the Channel 5 programme which visits all of the Queen’s homes.
Society designer Nicky Haslam, Prince Charles and Camilla’s former butler, Grant Harrold are among those interviews on the series.
Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall’s home, Clarence House is also featured on the programme.
The Queen is currently at her Scottish estate, Balmoral where she spends part of the summer every year.
The royal is expected to return to London in the coming weeks ahead of the state opening of Parliament on October 14.
