CHANCELLOR Philip Hammond has announced his 2017 Budget where he unveiled his plan to spread more economic prosperity beyond London.

The Budget announced more than £2billion of funding to get “all parts of the UK firing on all cylinders” in a bid to spread more economic prosperity beyond London.
It included a £1.7billion Transforming Cities Fund to help elected mayors and councils in England boost links between their city centres and struggling suburbs.
The Government is investing £300million to ensure the HS2 high-speed rail project can cope with future rail improvements, made as part of the Northern Powerhouse and Midlands Engine economic revival programmes.

Some £30million is earmarked to tackle the long-standing problem of poor mobile and broadband signals on TransPennine trains running between Manchester and destinations in Yorkshire.
The Tyne and Wear Metro will get £337million to replace its 40-year-old rolling stock.
The North of the Tyne region and the West Midlands will gain from new “devolution deals” giving them more power to decide their spending priorities.
