Union Flag goes up in flames in Scotland: Fury as independence activist sets fire to flag
TWITTER users have reacted furiously to a video posted online appearing to show an independence campaigner setting fire to the Union flag in Glasgow.
Scottish Nationalist SETS FIRE to Union Jack flag
The shocking scenes are only set to embarrass First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who has recently been criticised for her approach to UK diplomatic relations by refusing to fly the British flag at Holyrood.
The video which shows the campaigner setting fire to the British flag while a piper plays in the background was posted to the social media site.
Twitter has not yet taken the video of the flag burning down.
A Scottish independence supporter was filmed burning a Union flag
How crass of them. There's no need to burn the Union flag
The video was posted on Twitter by Alex Salmond parody account Angry Salmond, with nationalists even left questioning the activist's actions.
David Steele said: "How crass of them. There's no need to burn the Union flag."
While Chris Addison said: "Appreciate the outing of an idiot at work. Hope the level of condemnation for this crass act is overwhelming. From all of us."
Twitter users were left outraged by the independence supporter's stunt
In the flag burning video, the Scottish independence supporter is at first unable to set fire to the flag. He is heard saying: "I can't do this! Will somebody help me?"
While someone who appears to be filming his stunt replies: "Did you soak it in paraffin?"
The independence supporter initially embarrassingly failed in his attempt to burn the flag
Afterwards the independence supporter held a Saltire emblazoned with slogans and said: "We've just burned the British state flag, the Union Jack because we want an independent Scotland free of poverty, free of Trident.
"And basically getting rid of the democratic deficit so the people of Scotland can be free."
Twitter users questioned how helpful the latest pro-independence stunt was.
One tweeter wrote: "Will Police Scotland be looking into fire setting in a public place? Incredibly stupid and dangerous."
