Tim Farron to call Nigel Farage ‘a malevolent force’ who has hijacked Brexit
LIBERAL DEMOCRAT leader Tim Farron is to make a speech claiming that there is a “danger of letting malevolent forces hijack the result” of the EU referendum.
Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron will attack Nigel Farage in his speech
Mr Farron will claim that many voters who backed leave are “utterly appalled” that the likes of Nigel Farage and Marine Le Pen have tried to “claim the result as a victory for their hateful brand of intolerance”.
Mr Farron is also due to call on the Government to guarantee the status of EU citizens who are living in the UK.
He will use a speech to the IPPR think-tank in Manchester today to suggest that the nation has been left “bitterly divided” by the referendum result.
“Between parents and children, families, neighbours,” he will say.
“Between the nations of our own union, who have worked and fought together for centuries. Between us and our continental neighbours.
“And now the biggest danger of them all.
“That because of those divisions, we are in danger of letting malevolent forces hijack the result.

We will not stand by to let Nigel Farage or Marine Le Pen dictate our policy, our direction, or our morality
“Plenty of my mates voted leave and I can tell you that the majority of those who did vote leave are utterly appalled that Farage, Le Pen and their ilk now seek to claim the result as a victory for their hateful brand of intolerance, racism and insularity.
“Britain is better than that.”
He will add: “We will not stand by to let Nigel Farage or Marine Le Pen dictate our policy, our direction, or our morality.”
Mr Farage, the outgoing leader of Ukip, played a prominent role during the referendum campaign as he fought for Brexit, while Miss Le Pen, the French far-right leader, has called for a vote on EU membership to be held in France.
Mr Farron is expected to say that a “new battle” is now emerging “between the forces of tolerant liberalism and intolerant, closed-minded nationalism”.
Marine Le Pen will also be attacked in the Lib Dem’s speech
He will also make an “absolute promise” that he and his party and their just eight MPs will “use what power we can muster, to make sure that those who have committed their lives and families to this country will be protected”.
