Labour candidate defects to UKIP – just ONE DAY before the General Election
A LABOUR council candidate has defected to Ukip on the eve of the General Election.
Clair Hawkins has joined Ukip because it will ban live animal exports
Georgie Ramsay has joined the party because it will ban live animal exports.
She is a full-time campaign assistant to Clair Hawkins, Labour's parliamentary candidate for Dover.
But Ramsay will still be standing for Labour in Whitfield as a district council candidate.
Her defection comes just a month after the area's mayor, Deryck Murray, left Labour to join the Liberal Democrats.
In April, Dover's mayor moved from Labour to the Lib Dems
Sworn enemies of the Conservatives are flocking to Ukip in droves
David Little, who is standing for Ukip in Dover today, said that her defection proved that "local support of Labour is collapsing".
He added: "As Ed Miliband flirts with the SNP, people who are sworn enemies of the Conservatives are flocking to Ukip in droves."
Tory candidate Charlie Elphicke said: "It shows how the Labour campaign has been unravelling and been riven with splits and internal backbiting.
"In Dover, there is a clear choice tomorrow – the Conservatives with a strong plan for our community, or chaos with the Dover Labour Party."
A Labour spokesman said: "Georgie Ramsay joined the party fairly recently and was doing some part time admin for us but very little campaigning.
"She has also flirted with the Greens, so who knows where next?"
