Tory peer Lord Patten's son-in-law to stand trial on gun charges
Elton Charles is facing a trial in the summer over claims he was involved in a shooting.
The son-in-law of Lord Patten of Barnes is to stand trial on firearm charges in June. Elton Charles is married to the Tory peer’s daughter Laura and they have a child.
A shot was reported in Ealing, West London, on September 6 and police claim that one had been fired.
Charles, said to run a property firm, was held with three men. All deny conspiracy to possess a shotgun with intent to endanger life, and conspiracy to have a gun with intent to cause fear of violence.
Former florist Charles, 50, from Kensal Rise, North West London, appeared at Kingston Crown Court. He is on conditional bail with a surety bond reported to be £100,000.
Three other men joined the hearing via videolink from London’s Wandsworth Prison, where they are being held.
Judge Georgina Kent remanded them in custody.
Former Bath MP Lord Patten, 78, went on to be the last governor of Hong Kong.
