Italian TV presenter Elisa Isoardi uploaded a heartbreaking post on Instagram in November 2018 to announce she and the now Italian Deputy Prime Minister, Matteo Salvini, had broken up. The couple had been together for three years prior to their split which was well publicised after Miss Isoardi shared the news on her Instagram account. She posted the news alongside an intimate selfie of the couple with a heartbreaking message to share the news that they had split.
Matteo Salvini is an Italian politician who has served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior since June 1, 2018.
He previously served as a Member of the European Parliament for the constituency of North-West Italy from 2004-2008.
Despite his 14-year tenure as an MEP, Mr Salvini is considered to be a hard EUrosceptic politician and is massively critical of the European Union, especially the Euro.
In 2001, Mr Salvini married Fabrizia leluzzi, a journalist who worked for a private radio station.
They had one child together in 2003, but later divorced.
He then met Giulia Martinelli who he had another daughter with in 2012, but again, the couple separated.
He then met former model Elisa Isoardi.
The brunette and politician remained together for three years, but later separated, a split which Miss Isoardi announced on Instagram.
Her post quoted a line from contemporary poet Gio Evan, it said: “It’s not what we have given each that I miss, but what we still had to give to each other.”
She adds: “With immense respect for the true love that was, thank you Matteo.”
The relationship with Mr Salvini ended at the end of August/early September, but Ms Isoardi, who hosts a cookery show on Italian television, but she told Chi magazine in an interview, she decided to share the news with the public in November.
She added the reason was due to their pressing schedules, distance and commitments.
Mr Salvini himself is an avid user of social media, sharing details of his personal life with his 3.3 million Facebook followers and 900,000 followers on Twitter and Instagram.
But the Italian Deputy PM did not let this heartbreak keep him down for long.
He is now engaged to Francesca Verdini, daughter of the politician Denis Verdini.
Italy goes to the polls on Sunday in the European elections but Mr Salvini would not be drawn on predictions.
In a recent interview he said: ”Five years ago at the European elections we got 6 percent.
“So everything from 17 percent, from 20 percent upwards means that Italians are happy with us.
“I don’t want to give numbers, but I don’t put limits.
“Let’s see who goes up and who goes down”.
