Euro elections: Nigel Farage cheered at pro-Brexit rally
Nigel Farage yesterday insisted that Brexit was the “greatest opportunity in a lifetime” as he urged voters to fight parliamentary dithering in the upcoming European elections.
Addressing hundreds of supporters at a Brexit Party rally, leader Mr Farage said the May 23 poll was about “right or wrong”.
“This is the fightback,” he roared, to cheers from the crowd.
The former Ukip leader, who posed with supporters including 11-week-old Vincent Alexander and his grandmother Dolly, attacked the Prime Minister for the Brexit delay.
He said: “What Theresa May has done to us frankly is nothing short, in my view, of a national humiliation.”
He was joined at the Chester rally by party chairman Richard Tice, former Tory minister and Daily Express columnist Ann Widdecombe and North-west election candidates.
Mr Tice read a question from a crowd member, which said: “I’ve put a bet on Nigel being the next prime minister. Was my money well invested?”
Mr Farage said the £25 Brexit Party fee was the “best investment in this country’s future you can ever make”.
Election hopeful Ajay Jagota held up a Fudge chocolate bar to illustrate the Government’s handling of Brexit. Ms Widdecombe, who is also standing for election, said Mrs May had not “the level of leadership skills required for a Brown Owl”.
Fellow candidate Claire Fox told the crowd that the party had a secret weapon – which was met with a shout of “Nigel!” – before she said it was “hope”.
