Businessman Lord Myners 1948-2022 – Obituary
Gordon Brown was indebted to Paul Myners as the financial crisis of 2008 threatened the economy.
Myners was six months old when he was adopted from an orphanage.
Soon after arriving at the House of Lords, his intray bulged with crises, notably the bailouts of Lloyds and The Royal Bank of Scotland. Myners was six months old when he was adopted from an orphanage by Thomas Myners and his wife Caroline.
He went into the City seeking excitement and worked at merchant bank NM Rothschild.
During 16 years as chief executive and later chairman of the Gartmore institutional fund manager he saw funds grow by almost £75billion.
He resigned the Labour whip to become a crossbencher in 2014.
