An adorable dormouse grins while perched on top of a yarrow flower
The chortling rodent was snapped perching on top of a yarrow flower growing on the slopes of Mount Guglielmo in Lombardy, Italy, by photographer Andrea Zampatti, 32.
Ms Zampetti, who took first place in the Creatures of the Land category, said: “I was walking along the track and I began to hear a sharp and strange call coming from the edge of the forest.
“After a few minutes of searching, with amazement and happiness, I found this tiny dormouse that was perched on the top of a yarrow.”
Now in its third year, the photography competition received more than 3,500 entries from 86 countries.
