PETS AT HOME has voluntarily recalled some of its popular food brands after three animals collapsed and began having fits.

The nationwide retailer has announced a recall of four dry cat foods following an investigation in which it was discovered the products had lower levels of a key vitamin.
Posters showing the four withdrawn AVA range products have been put up in the chain’s 430 stores while scientific experts continue to look for the source of the problem.

Pets at Home says three cats had become “seriously unwell” weeks after switching to the affected products and needed veterinary care.
All three animals suffered sudden collapse, fitting, twitching and unsteadiness.
The Government’s Food Standards Agency has been informed about the voluntary recall.

Pets at Home is offering telephone advice to cat owners and it is also telling owners to dispose of the food and return the packaging for a full refund.

Owners are warned to get urgent veterinary advice if their animals become ill.
The four products being recalled are aimed at indoor, senior and mature cats.
Pets at Home said in a statement: “If you have any of these products at home please do not feed them to your cat.

“Instead please dispose of the contents and return the packaging to any Pets at Home store for a full refund.”
The retail chain says an investigation has revealed that in the four affected products the level of thiamine (vitamin B1) was much lower than specified. Testing has confirmed only these four products are affected.
The store told customers: “We are aware of three cats which, sadly, became seriously unwell four to six weeks after switching to one of the affected products and required veterinary care.
