Astonishing photographs of the wild Canada goose with both ends of the shaft sticking out its cheeks have been released in the hunt for “mindless” thug who shot the bird.
Luckily, the goose was rescued by the RSPCA after being spotted by shocked walkers in Birmingham’s Swanshurst Park at the weekend.
As the bird recovers at the charity’s Birmingham Animal Hospital, investigators are appealing for information to track down the crossbow culprit.

RSPCA Inspector Boris Lasserre said: “The bolt has gone right through the lower part of the goose’s head. Incredibly he was still alive.
It beggars belief that someone would get enjoyment out of doing something like this
“He was taken to the RSPCA Birmingham Animal Hospital for treatment and X-rays to establish the damage that has been caused by the bolt and the safest way to remove it.
“This poor bird was the victim of a mindless cruelty. It beggars belief that someone would get enjoyment out of doing something like this.”
