Bin men were horrified to find an emaciated dead dog thrown out with the rubbish
The body of the Boxer-type dog was found wrapped in a sheet near rubbish in Belvoir Avenue, Levenshulme, Greater Manchester on Wednesday morning.
Inspectors at the RSPCA are now urgently appealing for information. RSPCA inspector Josef Burgess said: "This dog was skin and bones. He looked a right mess.
"He was extremely emaciated, with no fat or muscle mass at all, and protruding eyes.
The poor thing has certainly suffered before he died

The male dog is tan in colour with a white chest and was of quite a small size for a Boxer.
The RSPCA said the charity is unable to trace the owner as the animal was not wearing a collar or ID tag and was not micro-chipped.

Inspector Burgess added: "I want to hear from anyone who saw this dog being put out with the rubbish, or anyone who has specific information about this dog's owner."
The horrifying discovery comes as Express.co.uk launches a petition calling for sick animal abusers to face tougher jail sentences.

Hundreds of abusers in the UK face only a maximum of 26 weeks behind bars for causing untold agony to animals and heartbreak for pet owners.
Express.co.uk is calling on David Cameron to increase the current sentence to a maximum of two years' imprisonment, in keeping with the demands of the RSPCA and many other animal welfare groups.
