Bad hair day: Poor pooch finally gets his trim
HERE’S a hair-raising sight to show what happens if you do not get your dog’s fur clipped.
Charlie, a Cavalier King Charles, finally got his haircut and now looks back to his best
The RSPCA has published photographs of Charlie the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel’s trip to a grooming parlour as a warning to pet owners.
Poor Charlie looked like Dougal out of the Magic Roundabout with his matted coat dragging on the floor.
After a professional groom, the 10 year old dog now looks back to his best, but the animal welfare charity is using his story to remind dog lovers to make sure their pets get regular trims.
I was shocked when I saw how matted Charlie had become
“I was shocked when I saw how matted Charlie had become,” said RSPCA inspector Joe Burgess, who took him to the groomers from his address in the Wolverhampton area.
“The dog’s owner - who absolutely dotes on him - was unable to take him to a groomer, and he had also got obese.
“Basically, his hair got to the point that the owner was embarrassed to walk him, so he stayed indoors more, and as a result of not going for walks, his claws grew really long to the point where he was not able to walk very well without them being clipped.
“As he wasn't getting the exercise anymore and his diet stayed the same, he was putting on weight. He is a much-loved dog and his owner is working with us on getting him back to health.

“Strict instruction has been given in terms of diet and exercise and he's already booked in for another haircut in a few weeks’ time.“It’s so important that owners recognise that grooming is an essential part of dog care.
“All breeds require daily grooming - how much depends on the breed, age, or health of the pet. Regular grooming helps to ensure a dog is healthy and comfortable.”
