What caused this terrifying HALF MILE long massive chasm to open up in the Earth?
HIKERS are shocked to discover a HUGE CRACK developed in the middle of a mountain range.
The massive crack developed in just two weeks
Measuring 750 metres long and 50 metres wide it has taken regulars in the area by surprise - appearing over the course of just a fortnight.
The incredible chasm developed in the Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains in America.
Hunting firm SNS Outfitter & Guides first noticed the spectacular gap in the ground.
It wrote on its Facebook page: "Everyone here is calling it 'the gash.'
"It's a really incredible sight."
Hunter Randy Becker added: "An awesome example of how our earth is not as stable as you might think.
"Awesome forces at work here to move this much dirt!!"
An engineer believes the crack developed due to a wet spring.
The chasm is about 750 metres by 50 metres
Engineers say it was caused by a wet spring but some dismiss this
Magically rare clouds make it look like you could WALK across the Grand Canyon
Maybe its the beginning to another grand canyon!
SNS said: "An engineer from Riverton, WY came out to shed a little light on this giant crack in the earth.
"Apparently, a wet spring lubricated across a cap rock. Then, a small spring on either side caused the bottom to slide out."
Others dismissed the theory and were keen to offer their views on the phenomenon.
Some say the crack may have been caused by burrowing gophers
Sandra Seino wrote on Facebook: "I'll bet if someone looks, they'll find gopher tunnels and the water got in and it went from there. I've seen it before, sink holes too."
Kathie Lester Harris added: "From what I have read is that we had a river that ran thru us about 75 yrs ago, something happen to the under ground rock formations and poof, it's a small creek."
