A PAIR of inseparable lion cubs cuddle up after being rescued from an apartment in the war-torn Gaza Strip.

They were pictured snuggled together in an adorable embrace in the back of a rescue vehicle.
Max and Mona were taken in by a Palestinian grandfather who brought them to his flat as playmates for his six grandchildren after Rafah Zoo was damaged by air strikes.
After long negotiations, US animal welfare group Four Paws and a team led by local vet Amir Khalil were given permission to enter the Strip and transport the cubs to Jordan via Israel.

They didn’t really realise the whole turmoil evolving around them
Dr Khalil said: “It was very hard for the father of the family, who bought the lion cubs in March, to say goodbye.
“But we are very happy he finally saw reason. A small flat is not an appropriate place for wild animals.

The cubs will undergo additional health checks before eventually be given a home in a new wildlife sanctuary in Jordan.
