My two daughters wore pink and turquoise bridesmaids dresses from Monsoon. Apart from my sister, nobody knew I was wearing such a bright colour.
Dan only found out I would be wearing the unusual shade in the hours before the ceremony.
I had a tie made for him out of my dress material which was delivered to him on the morning of our wedding. When he saw me on our special day he loved the colour.
The colour must have stuck in our girls’ minds because whenever they draw a picture of the family I’m always wearing a turquoise dress.

I had wanted a special wedding dress since I was a young girl. When I was 11 years old I saw a picture of a pink ruffled Cinderella-style wedding dress in a magazine.
It was so special and looked as if it was from a fairytale.
When the time came for me to tie the knot with Jolyon I remembered the picture and decided to make my dream dress a reality.
I asked Jolyon if he wanted me to wear a traditional dress or to experiment with colour. Luckily he said he was happy for me to experiment.
However my mum was against my pink colour choice from the start and defi nitely didn’t want me to wear it.
She could only just about tolerate the design, which was short at the front and long at the back.
I was determined to stick to my plan. I knew even if I wore the same design in a different colour that I would be disappointed.
I worked on the dress design myself, trying to combine my memories with current fashion trends and the fabrics that were available.
The dress was made by my friend who is a tailor although it was her first experience of making a wedding dress.
I helped her as much as I could, for example I made the flowers on the bottom of the dress. The whole thing cost around £1,700.
When I put it on for the first time it was a bit of a shock to be honest and I did think it might be a bit much.
However on my wedding day everything fell into place. I was so glad I’d chosen pink as the soft shade really worked with my skin tone.
Even my mum admitted that it looked really nice and said she was glad I hadn’t changed my mind to wear something more traditional.
When Jolyon saw me his mouth fell open with amazement. As I walked through London on my wedding day young girls screamed “Cinderella, Cinderella” at me. I felt fantastic.
The dress is now at home in my wardrobe with my wedding shoes.
If I have a daughter I would love to show it to her and tell her the story of our wedding day.
Who knows, maybe she will want to wear it too.
