How to create a Hotmail or Outlook account
To create a Hotmail or Outlook account you have to create a Microsoft account. To do this, go to www.login.live.com and create a new account.
You will need to input some personal information before you can complete this process. You must fill in your name, date of birth, location and username.
You can opt to log in via a new email address or you can use a phone number to sign up and confirm your new account.
You must then create a new strong password to protect your account and personal emails.
It is recommended to include capital and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters (such as !@£$%) in your password to make it robust enough.
Once these steps are complete, you will be required to test your login with your new username and password. Once done, you can begin adding contacts and using the email services.
How to login to your Hotmail account abroad
Most emailing services will block you from logging in to your account if you are abroad.
The service does this to cut down on potential hackers from foreign countries who may be attempting to access your account.
Hotmail won’t recognise that you are trying to access your emails if you go on holiday for a few days, and will simply assume you are a hacker trying to log in.
Hotmail launched a piece of software to help make this process easier, called “Familiar Location Protection”.
This means Outlook/Hotmail will lock you out of your emails if you are more than 300 miles away from your “normal location”.
You can designate your laptop as a trusted device to avoid this. First Login to your account.
Under “Security & Privacy” select "Manage Advanced Security."
Go to the “protect your account" page. Choose any option to get a code, and request it.
You will see a box that reads: "I sign in frequently on this device. Don't ask me for a code.”
Tick it, and enter the most recent verification SMS code.
Now you can log in to your Outlook email from anywhere — just as easily as you can check your bank balance.
