The problems hit as the nominees were being announced for the 2015 Video Music Awards, an excluisve partnership between MTV and Beats 1.
"We are investigating and will update the status as more information becomes available," Apple posted on its services support page.
Some have speculated the disruption was triggered by the excess traffic brought to the radio station by the exclusive announcement of MTV's 2015 Video Music Awards nominees.
The MTV award show is set to be hosted by controversial pop star Miley Cyrus.
