Now is a very good and bad time to buy a cheaper iPhone. A quick online shopping trip can currently bag you one of Apple's popular call makers for under £500, with stores including Amazon and Argos selling this device for just £499 - that's £100 off the standard price. That deal gets you the iPhone 16e, which features a decent display, a powerful A18 processor, wireless charging and a clever camera on the rear case.

The iPhone 16e, Apple's latest iPhone, is discounted down to just £499 at stores including Amazon.

As you can read in our full iPhone 16e review, this is a good device that won't break the bank.

Now, before you rush to tap the buy button, beware. Apple has just announced the launch of its replacement for the iPhone 16e, and it gets some nice upgrades.

The iPhone 17e now features improved wireless charging thanks to MagSafe. There's also a faster A19 processor under the hood and 256GB of storage, which is double the amount in the base-level iPhone 16e.

Apple has even added a new Pink colour in 2026, which means there's more choice than just black and white.

Probably the best thing about this phone is that there's no price rise. That means it will set owners back £599, which is exactly how much the iPhone 16e cost at launch.

Of course, there is now that £100 discount on the 16e, but if you want all the best features, it might be worth hanging on for the iPhone 17e.

Pre-orders go live this week, and it will arrive in stores next week.

“iPhone 17e combines powerful performance and features our users love at an exceptional value, making it a compelling option for customers looking to upgrade to the iPhone 17 family,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing. “We know our customers want a product that will last, and iPhone 17e delivers just that. With A19 for incredible performance, double the entry storage, a smarter camera system, and enhanced durability, iPhone 17e is designed to stay fast, secure, and valuable for years to come.”
