It has a Double VPN feature that routes users' traffic through two VPN servers, adding an extra layer of encryption and security. Other VPN providers on our list also offer this, though.

However, it tends to be a bit slower and less feature-rich than its rivals, but it is still super fast. Surfshark is also very competitive thanks to its recent winter deals with prices starting at £1.69 a month, which is cheaper than most competitors on this list.

2. ExpressVPN

For those who want the best of the best and don't want to skimp out on quality, ExpressVPN might be the way forward. 

For £3.49 a month, shoppers can get ExpressVPN for two years or customise their subscription. It is worth noting that it is not the cheapest option, though, and it comes with an eight-device limit.

We previously reviewed ExpressVPN, and it remains one of our top VPN services to use when browsing the internet. When it comes to privacy, ExpressVPN prioritises user privacy through several key features and policies.

ExpressVPN employs a strict no-logs policy, meaning it doesn't track or store your browsing history, traffic destination, or IP address. Advanced security features like AES-256 encryption and a Network Lock kill switch further enhance privacy and security. ExpressVPN also uses TrustedServer technology, ensuring no data is written to a hard drive. 

However, it is the most expensive VPN on our list but does provide some of the best features, speed and interfaces on the market.

3. NordVPN

NordVPN is another of our top picks and offers strong privacy features, primarily through its strict no-logs policy and robust encryption. It aims to protect user data by encrypting online traffic, hiding the user's IP address, and preventing third parties from monitoring online activity.

It's also the larger and more premium sibling to Surfshark and may be the one to choose for those who don't mind paying a bit extra each month. Thanks to NordVPN's no-logs policy means it doesn't track, collect, or share user browsing data. NordVPN also uses strong encryption protocols to protect user data from prying eyes, including hackers, ISPs, and other third parties. Nord also has its own DNS servers to prevent DNS requests from leaking to ISPs or other third parties. 

A 24-month plan at Nord currently costs  £2.89 per month with its latest promotion, offering great value for money. We also reviewed NordVPN and absolutely loved it - albeit we had a few issues. 

4. CyberGhost VPN

CyberGhost VPN is a huge advocate of user privacy with a strict no-logs policy, RAM-only servers, and features like a kill switch and ad/malware blocking. With approximately 9,200 servers in 126 locations across 100 countries, CyberGhost is one of the most versatile VPN services available – surpassing many of the VPN providers on our list.

One of the top things about using CyberGhost is that it is based in Romania, outside of major surveillance alliances like the 14 Eyes, which can be beneficial for privacy. CyberGhost is also on our list because it matches some of the top VPN providers but at a lower price.

It offers very competitive pricing at £1.92 per month for a two-year plan, rivalling the likes of ExpressVPN and NordVPN. However, some users have reported potential issues with the app's interface, which could be a consideration when making a choice.
