Black Friday deals could turn 'sour', says expert
An expert has warned that Black Friday deals could turn "sour" due to supply chain issues affecting goods.
Ole Hansen, head of the commodity strategy at Saxo Markets recent spikes in retail sales could be a sign "consumers worry there won't be enough good available" in the run-up to Christmas.
He also said delays could mean people won't get everything they want in time for Christmas.
Mr Hansen added: "A lot of money has been piled into the consumer goods industry since the beginning of COVID as there was very little else to spend money on, especially with the service sector shut down for a period of time.
"This means that this crucial sector has been overlooked and has suffered immensely.
"So one suggestion could be that, instead of jumping over hoops to get that one item for a loved one this year, you could consider buying a gift card to the cinema, to a restaurant or to some local experience.
"These companies are not going to run out of supplies and could use the help."

But Linda Ellett, head of consumer markets at analysts KPMG, said deals were likely to be worse this year as retailers struggled with global supply issues linked to the pandemic, and shortages of HGV drivers and warehouse staff.
"As rising costs start to bite hard into margins and supply chain issues impact the availability of goods, it leaves very little room for the mega discounting events we have seen in previous years."
