There's an exciting new update waiting for your iPhone, here's everything new in iOS 15.1
APPLE has just pushed out a big iOS update to iPhones across the world and here's what's included in this 15.1 upgrade.
Apple has just announced that iOS 15.1 is being pushed out to iPhones across the globe. This update comes packed with plenty of treats including the long-awaited SharePlay option.
This feature was first announced back in June during Apple's WWDC Developers Conference and allows anyone to share their music, film, or TV show with friends and family on a FaceTime call.
Playback of the music and video feed is synced across everyone's devices, so friends can add new songs to a queue or pause a film to talk about a specific sequence on everyone's iPhone or iPad. Disney+, TikTok, and a number of other streaming apps have already committed to implementing the feature.
You'll also be able to share what is happening on your screen. Both of these features were originally planned for iOS 15, but missed the deadline. However, it's great to see these exciting new features – perfect for anyone who can't travel to see friends and family right now.
As well as SharePlay, iOS 15.1 also includes some upgrades to the camera on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. Both devices now have the ability to shoot videos in the ProRes format.
This upgrade will be great for any budding Speibergs out there with ProRes offering an advanced video codec that is used widely as the final delivery format for commercials, feature films, and broadcasts, to offer higher colour fidelity and less compression.
Apple is boasting that iPhone 13 Pro is the only smartphone in the world to provide an end-to-end workflow — capture, edit, and share in Dolby Vision or ProRes.
Another change to the 13 Pro models in iOS 15.1 is the ability to toggle the new Macro mode on or off. Right now, the iPhone changes automatically when you get up close to a subject when using the triple-lens camera but that will change with users able to get full manual control of this function.
One final feature that's worth a mention is that, with iOS 15, you'll be able to securely store verifiable versions of your COVID-19 test results and immunisation records in the Health app on your iPhone or iPod touch.
Apple says test results or immunisation records downloaded in this verifiable format are digitally signed by a vaccine or test result provider. This is similar to providing paper documents with an official seal. If any of that sounds exciting then expect to see iOS 15.1 arrive on your device now.
To download and install iOS 15.1 simply head to Settings > General > Software Update.
