Angry at Three Mobile's data roaming charges? There is a simple way to beat them
THREE Mobile revealed earlier this week that it will bring back controversial data roaming charges for some users. The news has angered many but there is a way to beat this controversial change.
It's not been a good week for Three Mobile's customers with the UK network confirming that it's bringing back dreaded data roaming charges. The firm has been offering free data, calls and text to millions of users since 2013 with those on its popular 'Go Roam' plans able to use their devices completely free of charge in over 70 countries worldwide.
However, from May next year that all changes with a £2 per day fee being added to bills when in Europe and a whopping £5 per day cost coming if you head to other parts of the world such as the USA or Australia.
The news certainly hasn't gone down well as this free roaming option is one of the reasons so many people have been so loyal to Three.
Since the news was announced, Twitter is full of people venting their frustration at the changes with one saying: "It’s absolutely disgusting that mobile operators plan to bring back roaming charges come 2022. Millions of people rely upon using their phones abroad, these features are essential!"
And another added, " @ThreeUKSupport Disappointed to see you have now joined two other networks in commencing to make charges for roaming whilst outside of the UK. It was one of the reasons we moved to Three many years ago for use in Europe and USA."

Some are so cross about the decision they have threatened to switch provider with one Three customer adding: "@ThreeUK Your “Go Roam” was the reason I switched to Three many moons ago, looks like I will be switching again soon, bye bye Three UK, shame on you for going with the reintroduction of roaming charges."
Although it's clearly a controversial change there is a simple way to beat the hike.
Three says that the roaming update will only affect new customers or those who upgrade their SIM or phone after October 1.
So, as long as you leave your current plan well alone or buy a new device in the next few weeks you'll still get Three's 'Go Roam' option.

This is especially good news for iPhone users with Apple expected to launch a new iPhone 13 in the coming days.
As long as this device hits stores in September you should be able to switch and still get free calls and data in Europe, the US, Australia and many other destinations.
Explaining more about the changes a Three spokesperson said: "Any customers who take out a new contract or upgrade with Three from 1 October 2021 will pay a charge of £2 per day when roaming within the EU applicable from May 23, 2022. PAYG customers and customers who have taken out a contract before 1 October 2021 are unaffected by these changes.
"Customers roaming in the Republic of Ireland are also unaffected.
"The new charge ensures that customers are clear on what they will pay when using their phone in another country and only those who roam will pay for the service. It will also ensure that we can continue investing in our UK network."
