TalkTalk broadband and TV prices rise: how much more will YOU have to pay?
TALKTALK broadband and TV customers could be hit with a price rise in the coming months. Here's what you can expect to pay.
TalkTalk share the top Wi-Fi boosting tips
TalkTalk is looking to increase prices for its broadband customers later this year, according to new reports. Fortunately, it seems the monthly cost of its broadband plans will remain the same. Instead, the cost increase will come from the optional "boosts" to plans and call charges, the team at ISPreview claim.
Although TalkTalk has a fixed price pledge, which means it will "guarantee your package price will stay the same throughout the duration of your contract", that doesn't cover the optional extras. It's worth noting that this isn't unusual and most Internet Service Providers (ISPs) don't include any add-ons to your monthly plan in any price promises either.
According to ISPreview, TalkTalk has started to update some of the small print on its website to point out the price increase, which looks set to kick-in from October 1, 2020.
The first price rise will be the price you pay for UK landline calls outside of any inclusive minute allowances in your contract. Calls to UK numbers will increase by 2 pence to 18p a minute from October 2020. If you make a lot of calls, that could soon add up and it might be worth renegotiating for unlimited calls in your monthly plan.

On top of that, TalkTalk will increase the "International Max" boost, which adds 1,000 inclusive minutes to 50 international destinations plus the Channel Islands. If you've selected this add-on, you will be charged an extra £2 a month, taking the total for the international call allowance to £12 a month on the same date.
And that's not all, TV boosts look set to be included in the price rise. According to ISPreview, TalkTalk customers can expect to be slapped with a £2 price hike on those too. This will include the Entertainment Boost, which gives broadband customers access to 30 pay channels, including FOX, Lifetime, MTV and more.
The news comes as Virgin Media confirmed to subscribers that there would be no annual price rise on its broadband, phone, or TV contracts this year. The Internet Service Provider (ISP) has a habit of putting up costs every October, with previous years seeing monthly broadband, phone and TV costs increasing by around £3 a month. Last year, the increase was higher than average. Virgin Media asked customers for an additional £3.30 each month, although the ISP confirmed that some customers would have to pay as much as £4.50 more on every bill. That's £54 more a year. Ouch.
A Virgin Media spokesperson said: “Throughout the Covid crisis Virgin Media has been committed to helping its customers stay connected and entertained with limitless broadband, extra programming, mobile data boots and greater flexibility. While we start to ease out of lockdown we know that it’s still a tough and uncertain time for many people, so Virgin Media will not be raising monthly subscription prices for its cable customers this year and has not conducted its mobile price adjustment in line with inflation which was due to occur in July. We will continue to focus relentlessly on providing the connectivity and services that have never been more important to our daily lives.”
