Virgin Media v Vodafone v EE - Latest broadband tests reveal clear winners
VIRGIN Media, Vodafone and EE have all come out on top in the latest broadband speed tests and here's the winners and losers.
A new set of broadband speed tests have crowned Virgin Media, Vodafone and EE the fastest in the UK.
According to the new report, from comparison website Broadband Genie, the three firms beat their rivals for both download and upload times.
Coming top for getting files into homes the fastest was Virgin Media with an average speed of 71.5Mbps - almost three times quicker than its nearest challenger.
Vodafone is apparently the best when it comes to uploading content with the mobile network averaging 10.1Mbps which was slightly faster than Virgin Media (7.7Mbps) and EE (6.8Mbps).
Coming at the bottom of the speed charts was Sky and TalkTalk who both scored lowest for upload and download times.
Broadband Genie says it analysed more than 12,000 speed tests across the UK in 2018 before announcing the results.
Speaking about the results, Alex Tofts, Broadband Expert at Broadband Genie, said: “Congratulations to Virgin Media on another outstanding performance.
"But Vodafone should not be underestimated after its strong performance, as we upload much more data now than we used to.”
This is now a number of years in a row that Virgin has beaten the competition and Richard Sinclair MBE, Executive Director for Connectivity at Virgin Media, said: “We’re on a mission to make Britain faster and build connections that really matter so we’re thrilled that for the seventh year in a row we’ve been crowned the UK’s fastest broadband provider by Broadband Genie.”
Scott Petty, Chief Technology Officer at Vodafone UK, added: “We’re really pleased to have been recognised as the fastest broadband provider for uploading for the second year running.
"As the UK’s fastest growing provider, we’re delighted our customers continue to enjoy best-in-market upload speeds.
"These are vital for everything from online gaming to uploading photos and live streaming.”

The news of these deals comes as Which? has just released its latest report about the UK's biggest broadband firms and customer satisfaction.
Sky and TalkTalk both came out worse in the survey with them earning only a 50 per cent customer score.
Along with Sky and TalkTalk not impressing, BT, Vodafone and Virgin Media all came in the bottom half of the league table.
Speaking about the report Natalie Hitchins, Which? Head of Home Products and Services, said: “It’s outrageous that the biggest providers are still letting their customers down with shoddy broadband, especially when we know that longstanding customers are the most likely to be overpaying.
“Anyone who is unhappy with their current provider should take back control and switch to a better deal - you could get better service and save hundreds of pounds a year.”
