Messenger is down for thousands across the UK, as Facebook chat app suffers HUGE outage
FACEBOOK MESSENGER app not working for you? Don't worry, you're not the only one struggling to send or receive messages right now. Facebook has been hit with a colossal outage, with Messenger users faced with a blank screen and texts not loading.
Thousands of frustrated Facebook Messenger users have been left unable to access the hugely-popular chat service – with Messenger users currently unable to communicate with friends or family, receive video calls, or send photos or GIFs. Messenger appears to be down across the UK, users have reported. Trying to open the Messenger app on a smartphone or tablet, or use the web app in a desktop browser right now will leave you faced with a blank screen, Messenger fans have claimed.
Enraged Messenger users who use the service to communicate with work colleagues from home or socialise with friends have flooded social media with complaints.
Facebook has yet to comment on the outage, which appears to be impacting Messenger users nationwide, as well as mainland Europe, so it's unclear exactly what is behind the issues. On its Facebook Developers webpage, it currently states the entire "Facebook platform is healthy".
Facebook operates a number of messaging services, including Messenger, as well as WhatsApp and Instagram. Fortunately, it seems whatever is causing havoc for Messenger hasn't impacted the other two, which are still enabling smartphone users to send and receive texts.
According to independent service DownDetector, which tracks issues with web services based on reports across social media, some 4,000 Messenger users have reported issues with the app every minute. Using the geolocation data baked into tweets, DownDetector is able to work out where most reports are coming from. Reports seem to be centred around the biggest cities, which makes sense, but reports can be found across the entirety of the UK.
