January is a great time to refresh a home, which is why a sale always feels perfectly timed. With that in mind, Dusk has done us all a favour and dropped some generous discounts across its most coveted styles.

The homeware brand, known for its chic yet affordable designs, is offering up to 50% off a wide range of pieces, from bedding and sofas to furniture and lighting. Shoppers can also enjoy 20% off selected lines that are not included in the sale with the code JAN20.

I've been a shopping writer for three years now, with a particular expertise in homeware, so I've rounded up my top five picks from the sale based on value and current trends. Plus, I've got a particular weakness for Dusk; anyone who has visited my flat can vouch it's got more than a few additions from the retailer.

Middleton Ottoman Storage Bed - £305, was £359

Bed frames and ottomans are usually a significant investment, which makes this £54 saving especially appealing. The design features a classic hand-buttoned finish and a versatile natural hue that will suit most bedroom schemes. Lift the frame, and there's generous storage space for extra blankets, spare bedding or simply clutter that needs its own space.

This has almost a unanimous positive rating from shoppers, with one stating: "Looks lovely in my new home, the ottoman provides so much storage space, such great value for the price and good quality."

Meanwhile, another shared: "Gorgeous bed, really great quality and lots of storage in the ottoman! Worth every penny."

Vivienne Carved Ceramic Table Lamp - £39.20, was £49

Carved Ceramic Table Lamp

This lamp looks a lot more expensive than its price tag suggests. (Image: DUSK)

I can't quite believe the price of this stunning table lamp; it could easily pass for a designer piece. There's so much to love, from the scalloped shade to the glossy green glaze and subtle grid detailing. It would work beautifully in a cosy reading nook or as a statement piece to brighten up an empty corner.

For more lamps, I also love Dunelm. It always has some gorgeous options available, such as this rechargeable Remi lamp (£30), which has become a popular choice thanks to its pretty scalloped lampshade and chic matte metal finish.

Gingham is a timeless choice for bedding and always brings a homely feel to a bedroom. Available in cream and light green, this set would suit a neutral or cottage-inspired scheme, styled with a light-coloured throw and a few scatter cushions to complete the look. The set includes a duvet cover and two standard pillowcases.

It has a wealth of great reviews from Dusk shoppers, with one commenting: "Excellent quality. Pleasantly surprised. Best bed set I’ve ever had." And another piped up: "This set is crisp cotton and feels so luxurious and expensive. It looks great in my newly decorated bedroom."

However, one disappointed buyer said: "The only thing wrong was that a button was positioned incorrectly, so it couldn’t fasten."

A throw is an easy way to introduce both texture and colour to a sofa or bed. This design features an elegant herringbone pattern, finished with tassels for a warm and cosy feel. The contrast between the rust and cream tones is bang on trend and ideal for updating a space without committing to a full makeover.

Another solid choice for soft furnishings is Oliver Bonas. This reversible throw (£39.50) featuring a pink bow design is particularly charming, and will complement a crisp white bedding set.

A bath mat may not be the most exciting purchase, but this one is guaranteed to add a charming finishing touch to any bathroom. The scalloped edges tap into one of this season’s biggest trends, while the forest green shade will work particularly well in spaces with wooden or neutral details. It also features a latex backing to help keep it securely in place.

It's had some great reviews so far, with one person saying: "Stunning colour and design! Great quality as well as super absorbent! I loved it so much I bought the matching towels."
