Top 10 most affordable UK areas to buy a home in 2024 listed - did yours make the cut?

Experts at Hopkins Homes have unveiled exactly where the most affordable homes in the country are located with a new top 10 list.

When it comes to buying a property it never is an easy job. Saving for a deposit and finding a suitable area. Let alone being within your budget. 

However, a new study has found the most affordable areas to buy a home in the UK in 2024. This is according to Hopkins Homes, who are a real estate and zero energy bill experts. 

They looked at data based on the average house prices, percentage changes since 2020, house price-to-couples earnings ratios, and average council tax. This helped determine the overall affordability score for each area.

It turns out Scotland is heavily featured in the most affordable areas.

Here are the top 10 most affordable areas to buy a home in the UK.

10. Falkirk, Scotland - 80.9

Falkirk has an average house price of £168,536 and a price-to-earnings ratio of 2.22. The area has seen a 7.14 percent price increase since 2020 and is ranked 10th.

9. Renfrewshire, Scotland - 80.9

Renfrewshire has an average house price of £156,917 and a price-to-earnings ratio of 2.34. The area has experienced a 7.06 percent price rise since 2020 and is ranked 9th.

South Lanarkshire has an average house price of £166,162 and a price-to-earnings ratio of 2.21. The area has a final score of 81.3 and is ranked 8th in affordability.

7. East Ayrshire, Scotland - 81.5

East Ayrshire has an average house price of £128,549 and a price-to-earnings ratio of 1.88. The area has experienced a 7.48 percent increase in house prices since 2020 and is ranked 7th.
