Unfortunately, many people live in an area with hard water, which makes the limescale build-up in the toilet frequent, which requires regular cleaning.

Lots of bleach products claim to remove limescale, which they can do, but bleach-based products are toxic.

Not only that, if you have run out of bleach and guests are already on their way, you may feel bothered about what they might see if they go to the bathroom at yours.

Thankfully, there's one kitchen item that most people have stocked in their cupboards that can effectively remove limescale in time for when guests arrive.

Professional cleaning services MasterMaid affirmed you can achieve a clean bathroom without the use of chemicals.

"There are numerous natural ways to clean a bathroom without putting yourself, your family, your guests and the environment at risk," MasterMaid noted.

MasterMaids claims that products containing ammonia, ethylene glycol monobutyl acetate, sodium hypochlorite and trisodium phosphate could be harmful to your health.

"There are several products you can use to clean a toilet without bleach," MasterMaids asserted.

One such item is baking soda, which is naturally "anti-bacterial and anti-septic", which is "almost always kept in every household".

Baking soda should be mixed with a bit of water to make a paste to get rid of grime, dirt and drains.

Another useful, yet natural cleaning solution is white vinegar, which can be combined with baking soda.

Cleaner's guide to cleaning toilets

First, pour two cups of vinegar into the toilet bowl and pour in one cup of baking soda.

Once the solution stops fizzing, you can spread it over the toilet bowl with a toilet cleaner brush.

Left to sit for about 10 to 15 minutes, you can then rinse with water and the stains should be gone.

One more natural solution to consider is Boric Acid, which is a natural salt that is often used for sanitising, disinfecting and cleaning.

Boric Acid, otherwise known as Borax, is considered a "very effective way to clean, sanitise and remove stains from your toilet bowl".

You only need two cups of boric acid sprinkled into the toilet bowl and scrubbed with a toilet brush. The natural solution would need to be left overnight, however, and then flushed in the morning.
