If you’re dealing with a frustrating sink that won’t seem to unclog no matter what you do, whether it’s plunging, the old baking soda and vinegar trick, or just plain hot water, you don’t have to lose hope yet.

According to Reddit users, there’s something you should try first.

Faced with the issue of a funky sink filled with water that would not go down no matter how much they tried, an individual took to advice platform Reddit to understand what their options were.

They wrote: “Sink clogged and won’t go down for some time. We have tried baking soda and vinegar, plunger, hot water, and Draino.

“If we could fix this without a plumber that would be great as we do not have the money.”

A helpful Reddit user came to the rescue. They wrote: “You're going to have to check the U-bend.

“Get a big bucket or washing-up bowl and put it under the U-shaped pipe under the sink, loosen the pipe segment, and let it drain all the way out.

“Take off the U-shaped pipe and empty, could be excess oil or another type of blockage. You may need to use hot water.

DON'T MISS...

“But here's the big one, if you're in autopilot, you might just pour the drained water down the sink before re-securing the pipe. I've done it, it's a lesson you only need to learn once.

“Perhaps post a pic of the underside of your sink and I'm sure people here could point out the correct pipe."

Someone commented about the warning attached to the helpful tip: “If I had a dollar for every time I pulled a trap, then poured the drained water down the sink above me, I could afford to hire plumbers from now on using just the interest on those dollars.”
