Cleaner’s ‘best hack’ to keep towels soft and fluffy - even removes nasty damp smells
Towels can quickly stiffen and gather nasty odours if they are not washed properly. Luckily, there is a way to deal with both of those issues fairly quickly.
Angela Patrone fixes stiff towels with white vinegar
Laundry may seem like a simple chore, but when it comes to washing certain items like towels, following the correct method is essential if you want them to last.
While you can clean a towel by simply tossing it into the washing machine with your regular detergent, that’s not going to make it soft or smell fresh.
With the right washing technique, you can avoid scratchy towels that are covered in musty damp odours.
Taking to TikTok, @angelalanter shared a video detailing the “best towel washing hack”.
She captioned the video: “This trick removes odours, gets your towels fluffy and absorbent like they’re brand new.”

Angela started the video by saying: “If your towels are stinky, kind of scratchy, not absorbing water, I’ve got the hack for you.”
The first step is to add the towels to the washing machine with a cup of distilled white vinegar.
For softening your towels and removing smells, add the vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser compartment of the washing machine.

Run the cycle at a hot temperature - 60 degrees will be fine, it doesn’t need to be 90.
Then for the second cycle, add one cup of baking soda directly to the washing machine drum with the towels on a hot wash again with nothing else.
Angela said: “That’s it. Your towels will be like new. They will smell great and they’ll absorb again.”
Fellow TikTok users took to the comments section to share their thoughts on this towel-cleaning hack.
@betsymikesell wrote: “The actual best hack.” @marcille said: “I always wash my towels with white vinegar, always have.”
@kelseyrandalls urged: “Don’t use fabric softener. It puts a waxy layer on your clothes. I don’t use fabric softener anymore just white vinegar and my clothes are so soft.”
One user was curious whether Angela added anything to her tumble dryer when drying the towels. She responded: “Nothing! The fabric softener and dryer sheets are the culprit for product build-up.”
