Natural ‘strong scents’ repel spiders and will banish them from your home for just 96p
Spider season begins in September, but many people are noticing more of the creepy crawlies inside their homes now. Spider season usually ends in October.
Household pests: Six easy ways to de-bug your home
Spider season is just around the corner which means many Britons will be preparing to banish the pesky pests from their homes.
Spiders are more active from September to October with male spiders usually roaming around to find a mate.
This is why, often, Britons will see more spiders scuttling across their floors.
With this in mind, Robert Collins from Myjobquote.co.uk, the UK’s leading trades matching site, has shared exclusively with Express.co.uk how to repel spiders from properties “naturally”.
There are many ways to prevent and deter spiders from homes. Mr Collins said below are some of the “best methods”:
Peppermint oil
Peppermint oil emits a “strong scent” which repels spiders. Mr Collins said: “Add 15 – 20 drops of peppermint oil to a spray bottle with water and spritz this in any areas where you’ve noticed spiders in the home.”
Vinegar
White vinegar, or an equivalent works in the same way as peppermint oil. Spiders taste and smell through sensory organs on their legs which is why certain scents repel them.
Fill a spray bottle with equal parts white vinegar and water and spritz the mixture around the home to deter spiders.
White vinegar can be bought online or from most local supermarkets or hardware stores. Stardrops White Vinegar Multi-Purpose Cleaning Spray costs 99p from Asda and Dri-Pak Pure White Vinegar costs £2 from Ocado.

Spider traps
Spider traps can be purchased from home and garden stores. These are designed to catch spiders and kill them and are most effective when placed in high-traffic areas.
Remove webs
Use a vacuum to remove spider webs as soon as they appear in the house.
Install screens
If windows and doors are kept open in the summer months, install screens to keep spiders and other pests out of the house.
Use insecticides
Mr Collins said: “There are many insecticides available for getting rid of spiders. Spray treatments can be used along the edges of your home and underneath the furniture to form a barrier that can kill or repel spiders.”
Clean home
Keeping homes clean and tidy can make it more difficult for spiders to find a good hiding place.
Regularly vacuuming in corners, underneath furniture and across ceilings will help keep them at bay
Use a spider catcher
Spider catchers are great devices for humanely removing spiders from homes.
This hand-operated stick features gentle fibres at the end which is designed to pick up spiders safely.
The device holds the spider securely in the fibres so it can be moved outdoors and released into the wild.
