Bright in the moment
BE bold is the expert advice for anybody looking for a new sofa this season, with yellow and midnight blue the most popular colours.
No longer content with smaller pops of colours, we are seeing a move towards larger pieces of furniture in daring colours and eye-catching patterns
But Caitlin Price, head furniture buyer for the newly rebranded John Lewis & Partners, says: “As well as yellow, teals and pinks are on the rise across upholstery as homeowners become braver in how they incorporate colour into the home.
“No longer content with smaller pops of colours, we are seeing a move towards larger pieces of furniture in daring colours and eye-catching patterns.”
Yesterday’s rebranding is aimed at highlighting the importance of the company’s staff – its partners – and underlining the difference between its business model and that of other shops, which includes an emphasis on choice.
An example of this is its introduction of seven new sofa styles for autumn and winter and its Any Shape, Any Fabric service, which offers a choice of 80,000 fabric and sofa style combinations.
Velvet is leading the surge in demand for tactile fabrics but tweed also has a great texture.
Sofas By Saxon uses 100 per cent wool fabrics woven in the north of England for its tartan, plaid and check patterns that managing director Matt Deighton says “never go out of fashion”.
Deighton adds: “Everything is made to order so if you fancy a mix of fabrics and leathers, anything is possible.”
Meanwhile, Willow & Hall is launching new fabric collections House, Signature and Heritage, thanks to a demand for more choice and is doubling its range of fabrics from 130 to 259.
Elsewhere, look out for emerald or ruby tones and if yellow is not quite you, old gold might be closer to the mark.
